Junior Explorers

30 – 45 Minutes. Ideal for Ages 3 – 6

From bush planes to passenger jets, we’ll search the museum for Blatchford Bear, along the way learn about different types of aircraft and what they are used for. Guides will lead kids through interactive activities to imagine the design of their own aircraft.

The Science of Flight

60 Minutes. Ideal for Ages 9 -13

Connections to Grade 5 and 6 Science Curriculum

Students will get an up-close look at the museum’s historic aircraft as we discuss how gravity, lift, thrust, and drag work together to make planes fly. We will also look at how the control surfaces are used from the cockpit and discuss some of the history of how we came to understand human flight.

Blatchford Tales

60 Minutes. Ideal for Any Age

Learn the history of the transformation of the first municipal air harbour from farmer’s field to bustling transportation hub. We’ll discuss key aviators and connections from our hangar and Blatchford Field to the World.

Want to add more to your visit?
  • Add our RedBird flight simulators for an opportunity to test out flight controls while testing out different aircraft on scenarios around the World. Simulator add-ons are an addition $3 per person.
  • Add an aviation craft, we have a variety of craft options children will build and test! And activity will be matched to your group based on the age and size of your group. Crafts add-ons are an additional $5 for every 15 children (rounded down to the nearest 15).
  • Discovery Backpacks: Our group version of our Discovery Backpacks includes 7 interactive activities to explore aircraft control surfaces, aircraft design, morse code and more! Kids will become their own tour guide and work with their group to complete activities. Each backpack includes materials for up to 5 children and are borrowed in groups of 5 backpacks for $25 (maximum 10 backpacks per group). Discovery Backpacks can be added to a guided tour but are ideal for self-guided groups.
