Program Details

Program Runs: Monday – Friday

Program Length: 2–4 hours

Maximum: 64 students

Minimum: 10 students (Groups of fewer than 10 students are subject to a minimum charge)

Supervision: A minimum of 1 adult per 8 students is required

Program Overview:

Our Tour-Based Field Trip allow classes to choose combination of guided tours and activities that best fit their needs and schedule. Choose 1 to 4 activity options, depending on your group size and interests. Each activity runs approximately 45 minutes, and students will rotate through each program in the same number groups as you have choosen for activities.

Each group of students will rotate through the number of activities selected:

  • 32 students: Choose at least 2 activities
  • 48 students: Choose at least 3 activities
  • 64 students: Choose all 4 activities

Activity Options: 

Designed for Grade 5 curriculum but adaptable for other grade levels. Students explore how the Four Forces of Flight affect aircraft design and construction. Topics include: 

  • Four Forces of Flight (Thrust / Drag / Lift / Weight) 
  • Effects of Forces on Flying Objects 
  • Buoyant Force (applied to lighter-than-air aircraft) 
  • Physical Properties of Matter (state / mass / compressibility)

Designed for Grades 7–12, this program offers a more technical and in-depth look at aircraft design, engineering, and maintenance. Ideal for students studying aviation, engineering, or mechanics. 

Available for Grades 1–12, this tour shares stories from Alberta’s aviation history, connecting Edmonton’s Blatchford Field to the world, and exploring aviation’s impact on our community. 

Popular Curriculum links include Kindergarten to Grade 2 social studies exploring aviation’s role in connecting communities to meet their needs and wants and mapmaking. As well as Social 10 and 20 through aviation connection to globalization and nationalism.

Enhance your visit with time in our flight simulator lab, where students can: 

  • Practice basic flight controls and apply flight theory 
  • Experience simulated take-offs, landings, and level flight 

Half Day Tour: 

$450 per group/ includes up to 32 students (additional students can be added for $12.00/ student to a maximum of 48 students) 

Approximately 90 minutes (flexible start times) 

The Half Day Tour includes two 45-minute activities blocks including your choice of tour and the flight simulators. 

If additional students are added, more time may be required to ensure all students have an opportunity to use the flight simulators. An additional tour may be chosen OR self-guided exploration time added.

Full Day Tour: 

$750 per group / Includes up 54 students (additional students can be added for $14.50/ student to a maximum of 64 students) 

The Full Day Tour includes four 45-minute activity blocks (in groups of up to 16 students): we suggested selecting two tour options, flight simulators, and self-guided exploration time. 

Some small groups or groups only interested in one tour (and not using flight simulators) may be charged using our regular tour rates.

BOOKING AND CANCELLATION INFORMATION

  • We require a minimum of two weeks’ notice for bookings – we recommend booking early to secure your preferred date. 
  • Bookings must be submitted through the online booking form – we cannot process bookings made through email or over the phone. 
  • Your booking is not confirmed until your program fee has been received. 
  • Cancellation Policy – Cancellations will receive a refund minus a $50 administrative fee. 
  • There is no fee for rescheduling, but the availability of alternative dates is not guaranteed.
