Holiday High-Flying

Flying during the holidays can be busy, chaotic, and even frustrating but some airlines do their part to get into the holiday spirit. Some special ones that you can see for yourself are:

Since 1983, Finnair (Helsinki, Finland) has been the official airline of Santa!! Because even Santa needs to give the reindeer a break once and a while. Every year, Finnair brings Santa to different destinations all over the world, visiting preschools and hospitals, and spreading good cheer.

Several Airlines decided to treat their guests to holiday menus. Last year, British Airways served their long-haul passengers a turkey dinner. Emirates also offered their guests a turkey dinner as well as more gourmet options for passengers in business and first class. Even Air Canada offered a Christmas meal for those flying on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It included sliced roasted turkey, masked Yukon potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts, and baby carrots.

SWISS Airlines, really got into the Christmas spirit by painting two of their Airbus planes with a bright red nose as an homage to Santa’s own Rudolph the Red-nosed reindeer. Qantas also joined in and painted two of their local fleet, a De Havilland Dash 8 and a Boeing 737. The Dash 8, christened

Dasher-8, has kangaroos pulling Santa’s sleigh along the side of the plane.

Most airlines try to make flying during the holidays less stressful and some are even able to have a little bit of fun with it. Whether it’s the way they spread cheer, the most festive holiday paint job, or the good food you can enjoy onboard, flying during the holidays can be special in its own way.
