Film Screening: Fire Guardians

October 23 | Museum late movie night

Museum Access: 4-7PM, Film Screening starts at 7PM (~93 Minutes)

Join us for a special Museum Late at the Alberta Aviation Museum! From 4–7 PM, explore the Museum after hours and discover our historic aircraft and exhibits in a more relaxed setting.

At 7 PM, settle in for a special screening of Fire Guardians: Final Flight in our Event Hall.

As wildfires intensify across the globe, a determined crew of
pilots and engineers resurrect the last two giant water
bombers on Earth — legendary aircraft whose final mission
will honor their heroic legacy.

They are the last of their kind on the planet, the largest aerial
firefighters in the world. After eighty years of saving lives, the
Hawaii Mars and the Philippine Mars will finally be honored as
heroes. FIRE GUARDIANS: FINAL FLIGHT follows a scrappy team of
pilots, engineers and mechanics as they re-awaken two
slumbering giants. As fires rage more frequently all over the
globe, this exclusive series is both timely and thoughtprovoking: these flying legends are a soaring symbol of hope
that the world needs now more than ever.

Producer's statement

Growing up on Vancouver Island, the Martin Mars was more than an
aircraft to me—it was a mythical protector, rumbling through
smoke-filled skies to shield our towns from wildfire. As a teenager
and later as a filmmaker documenting wildland fires for decades,
my fascination only deepened.

When I finally stepped aboard the Mars in 2024, I was struck not only
by its immense size and vintage power but also by the deep
affection British Columbians hold for these planes and the crews
who fly them. The farewell flight of the Hawaii Mars united
communities in awe and pride, a rare moment of shared wonder.
Fire Guardians: Final Flight celebrates these legendary aircraft, the
landscapes they protect, and the people who keep them alive. My
hope is that this series inspires audiences with the same respect
and admiration the Mars has inspired in me since childhood.
