Youth Volunteer Program

Looking for a unique vOLUNTEER experience? THE ALBERTA AVIATION MUSEUM’S YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IS Back!  

What will you be doing? 

  • Support program staff in delivering activities during birthday parties (weekends only), community access night (weekday evenings), and day camps (on EPSB PD days) 
  • Help to answer visitors’ questions about the museum and ensure the safety of artifacts by enforcing the museum guidelines. 
  • Lead tours of the museum’s restoration area. 
  • Work in our simulator lab explaining how to operate the simulators and ensuring the safety of the simulators by enforcing simulator lab rules. 
  • Complete an object study about an object from the museum’s collection and help design an interpretive sign about the object that will be displayed in the museum. 

Who can participate? 

  • Youth aged 16-17. 
  • Must be available to volunteer between approximately 6-10 hours per month
  • You enjoy learning about history and working with the public (including younger children). 

Why volunteer? 

  • Experience working in a museum environment (ideal for you who might be interested in future jobs in museums or history). 
  • Volunteer hours for school, scholarships, or post-secondary applications. 
  • The opportunity to go behind-the-scenes in the museum and create something for display. 
  • Your own opening reception. At the end of the session, we’ll host an opening for your object study display to invite your family and friends to learn about what you’ve worked on.

  2. Successful applicants will be contacted for an interview in mid-January 
  3. All youth volunteers must attend orientation the last week of June (which will be scheduled based on youth availability 
  4. The deadline to apply is June 19th
