Hangar 14 Update: July 1st

Jean Lauzon, Executive Director

Welcome to Summer at the Museum

With warm weather hopefully on the horizon, this summer looks to be a banner year for upcoming programs at the museum! Summer camps are about to start as soon as the students are out of school. Many things have been happening around the museum. We have just acquired an Air Camper as well as received an offer of a 767 cockpit to add to our variety of displays. The museum will be a flurry of activity throughout the summer! On the hangar front, in late May, the museum presented to executive committee members regarding the motion for the sale of Hangar 14 and the potential of the museum taking over the hangar and property. It was well received. Executive committee members then instructed Administration to begin the negotiations with the museum for the hangar and property. The negotiations are between the museum and the city and no other bidders. Today we are awaiting an initial document from the city and then we can sit and discuss going forward. So, on behalf of everyone here at the museum, a big vote of thanks to all who have advocated on our behalf to their Councillors. It was heard. Executive staff are currently working with MCR Strategic Fundraising in completing a feasibility study on the potential of a capital campaign for the hangar. Our work with the Hatlie Group will also continue in creating the complete Business Case Plan to guide us through the next five years.

From all of us here we wish everyone a safe and fun filled summer!
